Saturday 18th of April 2015 was the 4th Annual social event held over the last five years by the Nottingham Branch. There had been a gap of two years after the first, due to members attending the Blackpool weekend back in 2012, but the first event had been such a success that the Branch were asked to continue the event, and we have done this for the last three years on the trot. It is always good to meet up with our neighbouring Branches, where the Midlands Region meets with the Yorkshire Region members.

In  total this year, we had 78 members and wives who came together for the carvery meal and social event held at the Hogs Head Hotel in Awsworth. Andy Hog the proprietor, is very pro armed forces and has always supported the veteran’s community over the years, where on production of a service photo and service details will produce a veteran’s card, earning a veteran 10% discount on food and drink at the Hogs Head Hotel.

During the end of the carvery meal, President, John Needham presented a large framed photo of the first Hogs Head Social event which included Andy Hog surrounded by members of the Nottingham Branch. Andy was pleasantly surprised at the gift.

During the afternoon Kay Holding, Caroline Bishop, Anne Needham and Meryl Marshall sold tombola tickets and merchandise raising £200. Sharon McKenna who was doing a charity 10Km run for a children’s burns charity the following day, also passed a bucket around, raising another £88 for her cause. John Needham also thanked special guests who had been invited for the day, including Angela Sheldon, community champion for Sainsbury’s at Kimberley, and Alicia Doyle of Morrison’s Bulwell who have both supported our Branch by letting us stand in their store collecting for our charity. Also invited was the Ilkeston Morrison’s community champion, Richard, who himself is a veteran of the Grenadier Guards and knew two of our own Guards Parachute Independent PRA members, John Tuffley and Brian Withers.

As Ilkeston Morrisons comes under the area of the Derby Branch, Eddie Davis, the Derby Branch secretary, also in attendance was introduced to the Ilkeston community champion, so that the Derby Branch could hopefully hold a collection at the Ilkeston Branch of Morrisons in the future.

During the mid-afternoon PRA members and guests went outside for the now famous group photos. We finished the day off socialising in the sunshine, before members from all the different Branches made their way home again.

Another successful PRA get together until the same time next year.

SATURDAY 26th April 2014

Saturday 26th of April was the Annual social event organized by the Nottingham Branch of the Parachute Regimental Association for its neighbouring Branches.

PRA Members from Nottingham, Derby, Newark, Lincoln, Leicester, Bedworth, Chesterfield, Sheffield and Wakefield were in attendance.

Special guest Roger Whitlock, Son of the late right honourable William "Bill" Whitlock MP, who was Nottingham Branches first President, came to present his Fathers wall shield designed by WW2 Polish Paratrooper, the late, Jim Jakubowski and he also presented a WW2 Para smock to the Nottingham Branch.

Captain (Retired) Roy Hatch BEM of the Bedworth Branch also gave a presentation of his European 4x4 Rally in aid of the Parachute Regiment Charities. Anyone who would like to sponsor Roy should contact the Bedworth Branch PRA.

Nottingham Branch member, Grant Grinham also gave a talk on the Petition for formal recognition for a posthumous bravery award to Stuart McLaughlin who was killed for the battle of Mount Longdon in the Falklands War during June of 1982. The Nottingham Branch will be organizing a coach to London for July 4th for the official handing in of the petitions. Other local Branches attending the social event were invited to share our coach.

Lisa Turner of Chesterfield Branch who is also raising money for her sponsored bike ride at Hardwick Hall on the 18th of May, also managed to raise £55 during the afternoon. We wish her well on her ride. Anyone wishing to donate should contact the Chesterfield Branch.

Another good day, with good friends. Keep em coming!

Our Thanks go out to Andy Hog and all the staff at the Hogs Head Hotel in Awsworth for making it such a successful day.

SATURDAY 27th April 2013

The above photos were taken on Saturday 27th of April 2013.

The last time we organised this social event took place almost two years ago to the day. Members from Nottingham, Derby, Newark, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Wakefield, Lincoln and Leicester Branches were in attendance, along with the Airborne Shop, based in Nottingham. Our thanks go out to Joe and Angie Willoughby for setting up the Airborne shop, and to Andy Hog for hosting us at his Hotel. The next event is hoped to take place on the last Saturday in April 2014, although Andy Hog will be running an Arnhem theme dinner on Saturday 14th of September 2013, where all are welcome to attend. Thanks to everyone that came along to make the day such a success.
